Hamid Azim Leghari

Barrister Hamid Azim Leghari is a Partner at Saigal, Tarar and Leghari. Mr. Leghari is an Advocate of the High Court and a human rights activist. He holds an LLB (Hons) degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. He completed his Bar Professional Training Course from the University of Law and was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, London. After completing his studies, Mr. Leghari was handpicked by senior Advocate Supreme Court and renowned human rights defender, Ms. Asma Jahangir, to work as her personal associate. During his time at AGHS, Mr. Leghari assisted Ms. Jahangir on numerous landmark cases. He has also independently litigated countless constitutional, criminal and family law matters in the honourable lower and High Courts of Pakistan.

After the sad demise of Ms. Jahangir, Mr. Leghari was appointed as the litigation partner of AGHS and continued representing Ms. Jahangir’s clientele. He has vast experience in litigating constitutional, criminal and civil matters and has had many reported cases ranging from public interest litigation pertaining to violence against women, service matters in the honourable High Courts and Federal Service Tribunal, labour disputes, criminal trials and bails. Mr. Leghari has worked on numerous landmark cases, including the Orange Line Metro Train case, to protect the cultural heritage of Lahore, and cases in the Supreme Court involving the jurisdiction and tenure of military courts. He has also worked extensively on preservation of freedom of association, freedom of expression and rights of women and religious minorities in Pakistan.

Mr. Leghari works closely with educational institutions through internship programmes, law moot competitions and legal conferences. He successfully headed the AGHS team in planning and executing the Asma Jahangir Conference – Justice for Empowerment in 2018.
